I found this one to be hard for a Wednesday. I didn’t really take time to understand the theme until afterwards, and as a consequence got slowed down quite a bit.
Some clues that slowed me down were “Polo name” (I hard RALPH, thinking clothing/Lauren, instead of MARCO at first), “H” (don’t know why I didn’t think of Greek letters until I got the crossings), “Bogart role” (I’m not familiar with The Caine Mutiny), “Put up with” (I had ABIDE at first, but BROOK was the answer and a good word I haven’t seen much in crosswords), “Hold’em venue” (I had LASVEGAS at first instead of CARDROOM), “St. _____ of Assisi” (never heard of CLARE).
One I did get immediately is “Baseball’s Felipe or Moises”, which is ALOU. That’s one of those crossword words that shows up a lot. If it’s baseball and four letters, ALOU is always a good bet.
